Solea® Laser Dentistry
Less Drilling. Less Numbness. A More Comfortable Dental Experience.
What if getting a filling didn't always mean the sound of a traditional dental drill, an injection, or leaving the office with a numb mouth?
At Fly Creek Dental & Aesthetics, we're proud to offer Solea® laser dentistry, an advanced technology designed to make many dental procedures more comfortable, precise, and efficient.
Dr. Ninel Wendover believes that modern dental care should combine excellent clinical results with a positive patient experience.
With Solea technology, many patients can receive certain dental treatments with less vibration, less pressure, and, in some cases, without the need for local anesthetic injections.
It's another way we're making modern dentistry more convenient and patient-focused.
What Is the Solea Dental Laser?
Solea is an advanced dental laser system designed to treat both hard tissues, such as teeth, and soft tissues, such as gums.
Unlike a traditional dental drill, which uses mechanical instruments to remove tooth structure, Solea uses precisely controlled laser energy to perform certain procedures.
This technology allows Dr. Wendover to perform a variety of dental treatments while minimizing some of the sensations commonly associated with conventional instruments.
For many patients, Solea offers a different dental experience, particularly during certain cavity preparations and soft-tissue procedures.
Solea Laser Fillings
A New Approach to Treating Cavities
For many patients, the thought of getting a filling brings to mind needles, drilling noises, and a numb mouth afterward.
Solea technology may change that experience.
For appropriately selected cavities, the Solea laser can remove decayed tooth structure and prepare the tooth for a filling.
Because the laser works differently from a conventional dental drill, patients may experience less vibration and pressure during treatment.
Many Solea cavity preparations can be performed without local anesthesia, although some patients and procedures still require numbing for comfort.
Benefits of Solea Laser Fillings
Reduced Need for Injections
Some patients can receive fillings without local anesthetic injections.
Less Vibration
Laser treatment avoids much of the mechanical vibration associated with traditional drilling.
A Different Sound Experience
Solea produces different sounds from a conventional dental drill, which some patients may find less stressful.
Precise Treatment
Laser technology can help target affected tooth structure while preserving healthy tissue when clinically appropriate.
Less Post-Treatment Numbness
When anesthesia isn't necessary, patients can avoid the lingering numbness that often follows a traditional filling appointment.
Convenient Treatment
For selected cases, Solea can help streamline the restorative process.
Solea for Crown Preparations
Modern Technology for Restorative Dentistry
Dental crowns are used to restore teeth that have been damaged, weakened, or extensively repaired.
Preparing a tooth for a crown typically involves carefully shaping the tooth so the final restoration fits properly.
Solea technology can be incorporated into certain aspects of restorative treatment, including selected tooth preparation and soft-tissue procedures associated with crown placement.
Depending on the clinical situation, Dr. Wendover may use Solea alongside conventional instruments to achieve the appropriate preparation.
Laser treatment is not suitable for every crown preparation, and traditional instruments or local anesthesia may still be necessary.
Solea and CEREC: A Modern Restorative Experience
Our practice also offers CEREC same-day crown technology, allowing many patients to receive a custom-designed permanent ceramic crown in a single appointment.
By incorporating advanced laser technology and digital restorative systems into our practice, Dr. Wendover can provide an efficient, personalized approach to crown treatment.
With CEREC, many crowns can be digitally designed, fabricated, and placed during one visit.
Modern technology helps us make restorative dentistry more convenient without compromising individualized treatment planning.
Solea for Soft-Tissue Procedures
Precision for Gum and Soft-Tissue Treatment
Solea can also be used for certain soft-tissue procedures involving the gums and other oral tissues.
Depending on the patient's needs, soft-tissue laser treatment may help with:
Selected gum contouring procedures.
Certain soft-tissue adjustments associated with restorative treatment.
Management of excess or interfering soft tissue.
Selected minor oral soft-tissue procedures.
Laser technology can help provide precise tissue treatment and control bleeding during certain procedures.
Not every soft-tissue condition is appropriate for laser treatment, and Dr. Wendover will determine the best approach following an evaluation.
Is Solea Really Painless?
Understanding What to Expect
Solea is often promoted for its ability to perform many procedures with little or no need for local anesthesia.
However, every patient and every dental procedure is different.
Some patients experience minimal discomfort during Solea treatment, while others may feel sensitivity or require local anesthesia.
Factors such as the size and depth of a cavity, the type of procedure, tooth sensitivity, and individual comfort preferences can affect the treatment experience.
Our priority is your comfort, not avoiding anesthesia at all costs.
Dr. Wendover will discuss what to expect and recommend the approach that best meets your needs.
A Great Option for Patients with Dental Anxiety
Making Dental Visits Feel Less Intimidating
For some patients, anxiety about dental treatment comes from the anticipation of needles, drilling, or discomfort.
Solea technology may help make certain procedures feel more manageable by reducing some of these familiar concerns.
Patients who may particularly appreciate laser dentistry include:
Individuals who dislike dental injections.
Patients sensitive to drilling vibrations.
People who prefer to avoid lingering numbness when possible.
Patients who feel anxious about certain restorative procedures.
Busy individuals who appreciate efficient dental treatment.
Although Solea cannot eliminate every source of dental anxiety, it offers an additional option for making appropriate treatments more comfortable.
