Advanced Laser Dentistry

Advanced Technology. Greater Precision. A More Comfortable Dental Experience.

Dentistry has evolved far beyond traditional drills and instruments. Today's advanced laser technology allows many dental procedures to be performed with greater precision, less disruption to surrounding tissues, and an improved patient experience.

At Fly Creek Dental & Aesthetics, Dr. Ninel Wendover believes that providing exceptional dental care means continually exploring technologies that can improve treatment and patient comfort.

That's why our practice has invested in two advanced dental laser systems: PerioLase® and Solea®.

Each system is designed for different applications, allowing us to offer everything from laser-assisted fillings and soft-tissue procedures to advanced periodontal treatment for gum disease and dental implant complications.

Combined with Dr. Wendover's commitment to continuing education, these technologies allow us to provide modern, individualized dental care focused on comfort, precision, and long-term oral health.

What Is Laser Dentistry?

Laser dentistry uses concentrated light energy to perform specific dental procedures.

Depending on the type of laser, its wavelength, and the treatment being performed, laser technology can be used on hard tissues, such as teeth, or soft tissues, such as gums and other tissues inside the mouth.

Unlike conventional dental instruments, lasers interact with tissue through precisely controlled light energy.

This can allow certain procedures to be performed with less vibration, improved control of bleeding, or reduced disruption to surrounding tissues.

However, not all dental lasers perform the same functions.

Our practice uses two specialized laser systems, allowing Dr. Wendover to select technology appropriate for the procedure and each patient's individual needs.

Our Advanced Dental Laser Systems

PerioLase® — Advanced Periodontal & Dental Implant Treatment

Healthy gums and supporting bone are essential to maintaining strong natural teeth and stable dental implants.

When periodontal disease develops, bacteria and inflammation can damage the tissues and bone surrounding the teeth. Similarly, inflammation and bone loss around dental implants can threaten their long-term stability.

Our PerioLase® laser is used to perform two specialized treatment protocols:

LANAP® — Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure

LANAP is an advanced laser-based treatment protocol designed to manage periodontitis, a serious form of gum disease.

Using PerioLase technology, Dr. Wendover can treat affected periodontal tissues and reduce bacterial contamination as part of a comprehensive approach to managing gum disease.

For appropriate patients, LANAP may provide a minimally invasive alternative to certain traditional periodontal surgical procedures.

Potential benefits include reduced bleeding and swelling, preservation of healthy surrounding tissue, and improved periodontal health.

LAPIP™ — Laser-Assisted Peri-Implantitis Procedure

Dental implants can develop inflammation and infection in the surrounding tissues, a condition known as peri-implantitis when supporting bone loss is present.

LAPIP is a specialized laser-based treatment protocol designed to help manage peri-implantitis.

Using the PerioLase laser, Dr. Wendover can address affected tissues and bacterial contamination around dental implants while supporting healing.

Although not every compromised implant can be saved, appropriate treatment may help improve the opportunity to preserve an existing implant.

Dr. Wendover has dedicated significant time to continuing education in periodontal disease and treatment, reflecting her commitment to helping patients protect their natural teeth and dental implants.

Solea® — Advanced Hard- & Soft-Tissue Laser Dentistry

A Different Approach to Everyday Dental Care

Our Solea® dental laser is designed to perform a variety of hard- and soft-tissue procedures.

Unlike PerioLase, which we use for specialized periodontal treatment protocols, Solea allows us to incorporate laser technology into many routine and restorative dental procedures.

For appropriately selected treatments, Solea can reduce the need for conventional drilling, minimize vibration, and sometimes eliminate the need for local anesthetic injections.

This can make certain dental visits more comfortable and convenient, especially for patients who feel anxious about traditional dental procedures.

Solea Laser Fillings

For many patients, the thought of getting a cavity filled brings to mind needles, drilling, and a numb mouth afterward.

Solea offers a different approach.

For suitable cavities, the Solea laser can remove decayed tooth structure and prepare the tooth for a filling without the same mechanical vibration associated with traditional drilling.

Many laser-assisted fillings can be performed without local anesthesia, although the need for numbing depends on the size and location of the cavity, the procedure, and the patient's individual comfort.

When anesthesia is not needed, patients can avoid the lingering numbness that often follows a traditional filling appointment.

Solea for Restorative Dentistry

Solea can also be used during selected restorative procedures, including certain aspects of tooth preparation and soft-tissue management associated with dental restorations.

Dr. Wendover may incorporate Solea into appropriate crown preparation procedures, using conventional instruments when necessary.

Our practice also offers CEREC same-day crown technology, allowing many patients to receive a custom-designed permanent ceramic crown in a single appointment.

By combining advanced restorative technology with individualized treatment planning, we strive to make dental treatment more efficient and convenient.

Solea for Soft-Tissue Procedures

Solea can be used for a variety of procedures involving the gums and other soft tissues inside the mouth.

Depending on the patient's individual needs, these procedures may include:

  • Tongue-tie releases.

  • Selected lip-tie releases, when clinically appropriate.

  • Gum contouring and reshaping.

  • Soft-tissue adjustments associated with restorative dentistry.

  • Removal or management of certain excess or interfering soft tissues.

  • Other appropriate minor oral soft-tissue procedures.

Laser technology can help provide precise tissue treatment while controlling bleeding during certain procedures.

Dr. Wendover will evaluate your condition to determine whether laser treatment is appropriate.

Laser Tongue-Tie Treatment

Improving Oral Function with Modern Technology

A tongue-tie, also known as ankyloglossia, occurs when the band of tissue beneath the tongue restricts its normal movement.

In some individuals, a restrictive tongue-tie may interfere with certain oral functions, including tongue mobility, feeding, or speech-related movements.

Not every tongue-tie causes problems or requires treatment.

When a restriction is causing a functional concern, a procedure called a frenectomy or frenotomy may be recommended.

Using the Solea laser, Dr. Wendover can release the restrictive tissue in appropriate cases.

Potential benefits of laser-assisted treatment may include precise tissue management, reduced bleeding, and less need for sutures compared with certain conventional techniques.

A thorough evaluation is important to determine whether treatment is necessary and whether additional care or specialist collaboration may be beneficial.

Preservation of Healthy Tissue

Precise laser application can help minimize unnecessary disruption to healthy surrounding structures.

The benefits of laser dentistry vary depending on the procedure and individual patient. Some treatments still require anesthesia, conventional instruments, or other approaches.

Is Laser Dentistry Right for Everyone?

Although laser dentistry offers exciting possibilities, it is not the best option for every dental condition.

The appropriate treatment depends on factors such as:

  • The type and extent of the dental problem.

  • Whether hard or soft tissue is involved.

  • The location and severity of the condition.

  • Your overall oral and medical health.

  • Your individual treatment goals and comfort needs.

Dr. Wendover will carefully evaluate your condition and recommend the treatment approach best suited to your needs.

Our priority is always providing appropriate, effective care—not simply using technology for its own sake.
